Is a spinnaker on a hobie 20 safe? I have tried to enter long distance races and have always been told that the hobie 20 can't tolorate the stresses a spinnaker would put on the boat. When i use the spinnaker i don't see what they are talking about. ie: bows pulled toward each other and the comp tip would flex too much and break.
If this is true, what could i do to make the boat more reliable with the spinnaker? Are their any tuning tips one would consider before using a spinnaker on a hobie 20.

I've sailed with a spinnaker on a Hobie 20 plenty of times and never had any concerns with the boat. Just remember to keep your mainsheet tight and if you have to depower, pull the downhaul on tight, outhaul on tight and let out your traveler. http://www.hobiecat.com/sailing/gallery ... =04&res=lr

The Great Texas Catamaran Race was just completed and a Hobie 20 was racing, with a spinnaker. Check out the website http://www.pisailing.com for pictures and results.
