Post subject:  Problems with pylons

I have an old 16, a 1981. It is in fair shape except for one thing. The hull pylons rock side to side in the trapeze frame something awful. I have not tried to take them out to see what the problem is. The bolts are tight. Is this something that can be repaired? If so, can someone give me some instruction? Thanks.

If the rocking is from the pylon rocking inside the hull, then you need to repair the pylon shoe.

If the pylon is rocking in the corner casting (sloppy), then you need to shim the joints or epoxy the frame and make sure the tramp is tight.

Thanks, actually, my tramp is rotten, and has a huge tear. I will replace that. What do you shim the joints with?

New rivets or possibly some epoxy filler at the crossbar to casting connection.

Typical slop is at the casting to pylons connection from wear. Remove the trampoline frame, then aluminum strips can be folded over the pylon tops and then re-install the castings.

Note: Epoxy can also be used here, but any epoxy use will make future dis-assembly difficult or impossible.
