A big congratulations to Hobie Fleet 97 in Raleigh, NC! They were reactivated this past week and a new charter has been issued. Commodore Garrett Dawkins (Forum Username "GD_NC") has done a fantastic job of rounding up sailors in the Central North Carolina area and putting Fleet 97 back on the map.

The camaraderie that comes with a fleet will turn solo experiences into memorable events shared with friends with common bond: Hobie sailing. We've reactivated two fleets in Division 9 (includes GA, SC, NC, East TN and Virginia Beach, VA) this year: Fleet 53 in Charleston and Fleet 97 in Raleigh. We also have the Division 9 H16 Championships, an HCA points regatta, scheduled for Sept 7-8 at Lake Norman Yacht Club just north of Charlotte, NC (all other Hobies welcome in open classes). Momentum is rolling in Division 9!! I want to invite you to jump on the bandwagon. Please contact me if you live or sail in our region and want to put a fleet together. It's easy to do. If you live somewhere else, find the fleet roster on the HCA website (outdated in some cases), http://www.hcana.hobieclass.com/default ... %2F3027%2F, or the list of Division Chairs, http://www.hcana.hobieclass.com/default ... %2F3027%2F, and contact the people in your area. They'll be glad to help put you in touch with other Hobie sailors.

If you live or sail in the Charleston area, contact Nick Bostic at [email protected] and check out their facebook group, Ft Moultrie Beachcat Sailors.

If you live in the Raleigh area, contact Garrett Dawkins at [email protected] and check out their facebook group, RTP Beachcats.

If you are a member of Fleet 32 in Virginia Beach, please contact me at [email protected] so we can establish contact.

That's great. 97 was a massive fleet at one time. At races, there would be large fleets, not only in one class, but large fleets of A, B, and C fleets of 16s.

Congratulations Fleet 97!

What does it take to re-activate a fleet? We had one here (Indianapolis Sailing Club) years ago, but it's not on the list. We're getting several new members with Hobies (14s, 16s, an 18, plus my Wave). So far, I'm the only racer, but hopefully with the America's Cup publicity, others may join in.

You just need to complete a fleet charter application. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=43980
