Post subject:  Hobie 13 ?

I want to buy a second-hand catamaran to start with. An old Hobie cat 13 offered for a nice price.
Because of the lenght (transport), it is a nice alternative for the Hobie 14. However I can't find any info / specifications on internet sites. It is not a Wave or Dragoon.
Has anyone info available. Or can it not be a Hobie?
Thanks for any advice.

Not a Hobie 14? Not a Hobie Wave?... Not a Dragoon...

Photo maybe?

That certainly is a Hobie Cat.

Built by Hobie Europe in the late 80's? Asymmetrical hulls.

This is likely the early version of the Dragoon. I'll ping Hobie Cat Europe for more info.

With those short bows I would think you would spend more time in front of the mast than behind it

Thanks for your reply. This H13 is interested for me, because:
- I'm looking for a starter catamaran, easy to sail, easy to handle, easy to setup
- The light weight is a pro
- for 1 or 2 persons
- Not to long, so easy to store during winter time.
I will sail only on inner lakes, not on see.
I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Hobie Cat Europe clarified that the boat was indeed called... simply a "Hobie 13"

Contact Hobie Cat Europe for any further details. http://www.hobie-cat.net

We never built or distributed this model in the US factory territory.

It is made of fiberglass, so leakage repair should be similar to other models like the Hobie 14 and 16.

Hi guys,
I had a Hobie 13 for 2 years. Nice little cat, spare parts can most be taken from the H14.
The cat was built by Hobie Cat Europe, not in the US, that is why even Mat did not know it.
In the US they only have the rotomolded wave.
The 13 was sold indeed before the dragoon and it was for the same group. Constructed a a youth boat it can carry up to 75 kg. More means, that the tramp gets too deep and the water acts like a break.
I weigh about 90 kg with life jacket and so and yes, I could sail and even faster than the dinghis before. But after 2 years, I changed to a Topcat F2 now.

Here you can find my videos from H13 and Topcat.

The dealers here in Germany still have H13 spare parts and the tramp can be aquired in France.

So a nice alternative if you want to carry it on a roof rack, as I do. But better you keep your weight under 75kg!!

Here is a picture of my Hobe 13 after I put a Hobie 14 Rigg on this baby :)
Using this setup, no Hobie wave had any chance to follow me :)
