PARTNERSHIP WITH AMERICAN SAILING ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCED

The Press Release explains Hobie Cat® Company’s new worldwide partnership with the venerable ASA. Jointly, and with the support of Oracle Corporation, we will be working to put a fresh spotlight on the exciting sport of sailing and grow our sport worldwide, targeting youth and adults alike.

The eye-catching concept boat that we are displaying at the Paris Boat Show is a Hobie® Wave with black hulls and sail, red rudders, and custom Oracle and ASA graphics, along with an American Flag decal to gain attention for the new project.

The new boat will be the first in a series of special edition ASA/Hobie catamarans designed with the dual purpose of making it easy to learn as well as appealing to those youth and young adults attracted to the speed and performance of multihulls.

As an ASA Instructor since the mid 90's I'm excited to see this! ASA was the first to offer a Trailerable Multihull Certification, and has always been geared toward the recreational aspects of sailing first, and racing as a secondary track. Very few first time sailors get into the sport with the intention of racing. It's only after they have some fun on the water and are ready to advance and challenge themselves that they look for opportunities to race. I'm not saying that racing is not an important part of the sport, and possibly a natural progression for some, but you gotta walk before you run!

Thats a cool looking cat and its great to here of efforts to get more people out sailing. From what I see in my area ( NE Indiana )the bigest problem is places to sail, we have lots of lakes around and the DNR has added a lot of new boat ramps over the years but there not cat friendly Most have nice ramps to back the boat in but the shores are then all lined with big rocks or the ramp is way back in a channel with overhaning trees. I started sailing with a new 1979 H16 and meet lots of other sailers in the area, most have given up because of the trouble finding good launch areas and yes I have brought this up many times with the DNR.
