My friend from school just moved to California and he's looking to buy his first Hobie. He's never been on one but he's very enthusiastic to get started.

I saw this one on craigslist. He's going to call the guy tonight.

Looks like a good beginner boat as long as the sails are decent and there aren't any soft spots. Does anyone happen to know the owner?

I'll try to get him on here to introduce himself.

Contact Fleet 259 in Paso Robles.

To put it mildly.

Scott and Tom are HUGE supporters of Hobie sailing and have been banging the drum and beating the bushes for like-minded people on the Central Coast for the past four years. They have resurrected a local fleet and regatta and were instrumental in getting the Hobie 18, 20 & Tiger North American Championships in California this year. They travel at least four hours one-way to attend Division 2 & 3 regattas all season. They hold scads of fun sails with clinics for beginners year-round. They are sick in the head for Hobie sailing and racing and wear the disorder as a badge of honor. They are bad-ass sailors, too. They must be high on coke or meth because there is no other explanation for their enthusiasm and energy. Scott's wife asked me when she can expect the Hobie addiction to fade, but she asked the wrong guy, because I haven't lost mine over the past 30 years either, but Scott and Tom take the cake.

So, yeah. . . have your friend contact Fleet 259 when he gets to the area if he wants to learn to sail.
