Hobie 16 mast/boom rigging

Hi, I am new to the hobie 16 and have only had mine out twice. Once with the sails rigged wrong (both) and this time I think I got it pretty close. My question is while sailing the mast does not seem to stay in line with the boom. It stays pretty much at a 90 degree angle to the boom. Is this normal or do I still have something wrong? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Is this a spoof or troll? If you are serious, are you bothered by having to duck under the boom or what? Or are you saying your mast stays rotated? Either way its normal. The H16 has no mast limiter. Only a stop at the mast base.

I think he is talking about the mast rotating in the step.

Yes, this is normal. The mast should pivot in the mast step and every time you switch tacks, the mast should rotate to the other side. This actually helps performance since it allows the air to flow more smoothly around the mast. In fact, there is a small plastic chip that should be placed in the mast step before stepping the mast. This chip reduces friction so the mast will pivot more easily. The mast should not rotate to a full 90 degrees though. It is more like 45-60 degrees. There are stops molded into the mast base that should contact the mast step and keep the mast from rotating too far.

Perhaps one of your shrouds went on a wrong side of the mast?

Thanks for your input. No this isnt a spoof or a troll. If you read most post I said it was my second time out. Ever. I know nothing about sailing. Other than some limited experience and videos on youtube and the hobie sight. Should have clarified. I know the mast swings from one side to the other. No ducking under doesnt bother me. I know that much. What i was trying to say is the mast and the boom seem off. (not in line with each other) was wondering if this is normal. Thats all. Thanks

Watch Matt's video and if your still concerned post up a picture here. But it certainly sounds to be working normally, which is a pivoting mast during tacks.
