thanks angelo

Call me paranoid I don't trust most sheath knives if they are friction fit only,to stay in place if the sheath is sewn to the PFD, strap, etc. Some will obviously be more foolproof than others and yours may be fine. I just don't want a sharp knife flailing around at the end of a lanyard, should it get knocked loose. Therefore , my vote for a sheath knife is in the pocket (assuming you can retrieve it one handed.)

I've been sea kayaking since before sprayskirts slipped off so easily as they do now so I always carried a knife I could grab and open easily with one hand only. My current one is a folding Spyderco that is designed to be flipped open with a a thumb flick. It has a very tight clip that secures to my PFD and I have a lanyard attached as well. The bulk of the long lanyard sits out of the way in the pocket it clips to. Although it's never come loose, it will at least be closed if it does.

Same here I don't trust sheath knifes as much as I like foldable knifes that I keep in each pfd (would hate to get cut accidentally). We are scuba divers and I don't mind sheathed knives attached to my my leg, arm, or BC (would love to have the ceramic knife you show for diving but not so much for an emergency sailing knife (just my opinion of course). My foldable stainless knife I fill with Vaseline then fold, and wipe all the Vaseline off the outside then throw in my pfd pocket (helps prevent corrosion). I've been cut before so I'm kind of paranoid about loose knifes.
Hope this helps
Bob

I wouldn't trust just the friction fit ether. I have it in the pocket of my lifejacket now, but it almost doesn't fit. If this knife works good then I'm going to get the more expencive one that folds

I like the Myerchin lite knife crew, smaller one, with locking marlin spike.
I find that is useful when rudder kicks up but cam does not. fits in pocket

I use a multitool like this

The pliers help to do-undo shackles.
