Can the H Tiger be a single handed boat? I suspect it isn't but they look sooo nice I want one.... Alan |

Theoretically, almost any boat can be singlehanded. Just look at the big monos which are raced arounf the world singlehanded. I wouldn't awant to use all three sails. You could take off the spinnaker and the self tacking jib would make life easy and fast in moderate winds. You could take off the jib and the spinaker would give you a fast ride downwind in light winds. You could take off the jib and spinnaker and sail it uni-rig if the wind was too much. Like a heavy A Class. P.S. Most people who sail sloop rigged boats would benefit from occasionally practicing tacks as a Uni-rig. We sometimes come to rely upon our crew too much for good tacks. A uni-rig will quickly show any flaws in the skippers technique. |

a couple of the guys here uni their Nacra 5.8s...just have to really be carefull,,,not likely you could rite it..... |

You may want to consider the FX-1. It is a high tech boat that is fun to sail and its a single hander with room for more. Get the Spin with the trumpet retrieval system and the jib with roller furling and you have the perfect single hander! Thanks everyone for taking the time. I appreciated all of the thoughts. They were part of my decision which was to get a Tiger  despite the fact that I will probably be extremely busy. Will probably leave the Jib and Spi for easy days or when my friends are around for crewing.
Suspect I will get a mast float as the water here is fairly cold. |

I've got hold of an old A class sail. Turned it into a square cut main. It's smaller than my H18F main so I use this for single handed sailing. With the square top it tends to dump in the gusts. I keep the genoa and spinnaker on the boat, the genoa for manuvering in tight spaces or, if the wind gets up to sail back on after dropping the main. And the spinny is used if the wind gets really light or I can kidnap semi intellegent ballast off another boat... Cheap method and makes the boat safer to sail 1 up. |
