I just saw a great movie called Of Wind and Waves-The Life of Woody Brown. Woody is in his 90's now, but back in the day he was one of the first guys to surf the North Shore. He is into flying sail planes, sailing and surfing and had the first Polonesian inspired catamaran in Wikiki. Aparently, Hobie went to Oahu to visit one time and got a ride on one of Woody's cats---the idea for the Hobie Cat was born. There are some great shots of Woody flying the hull on a big plywood cat, and a short but sweet interview with Hobie. The movie is a must see for any adventurer that loves the ocean. I bought a few extra copies from a film festival, so if you want one let me know.

I ordered one of these DVDs and watched it last night. I highly recommend it. Woody is a guy who has taken big bites out of life -- not just nibbled around the edges. But beyond the adventures, he has a complicated personal history, which the documentary explores as well. His life, and his philosophy (which some might see as naive) are inspirational, and all those shots of Hawaii & California made me wish it wasn't March in Michigan. The interviews with the old surfers are great, but, man, those guys should have used some sunscreen, and gone to the dentist once in awhile!
