Just to follow up. I have finally finished doing all of the repair work for my delaminated hull. Took her out for the first sail of the season today. Everything went pretty smoothly. The gel coat work was a little tricky, based solely on my lack of experience. The first coat I tried I added way to much hardner, and consequently ruined the cheap gun I had bought, no biggie though. I ended up putting on two more thick coats of gel over the repair area, with the right amount of hardner. I rolled it on using a 4 inch high-density foam roller. After the application the surface was a little wrinkly but it all sanded down nicely. If I could have done one thing differently it would have been to die the polyester resin that I used to initially fill the holes left from the repair white. Some of them faintly show through the gel coat but it's close enough for me. I'm glad to be sailing again
Special thanks to Jeremy from Surf City cats for advising me on this repair, as well as answering several other questions by phone. You were a big help man, thanks a lot. My new sheets are great, by the way!
And a special thanks to all of ya'll that advised me on my delam repair. If it wasn't for ya'll my boat would probably still be sitting on the trailer in the barn. It's still solid after a good six hour sail, and she'll be seeing some action tommorow as well, supposed to be blowing around 20mph. I think from here on out it should be smooth sailing, so to speak.
Once I get acces to a digital camera I'll be posting pics of the finished product. You can check out some of my progress here:
