I currently own a pair of TigerTrax for my Hobie 18 and one wheel just broke. The plastic cracked. The ramp that I use to put the boat in the water is concrete and its end is really bumpy with rocks and cement bags to try to make up for the erosion. Furthermore, past the ramp the river is really shallow and we need to walk the boat for another 75 feet before it gets deep enough to slip the wheels out. The bottom of the river is sandy and rocky and especially oystery. I was considering not replacing the broken wheel and switching to Cat Trax. Has anyone had the chance of comparing them on bumpy surfaces (with the TigerTrax I often get stuck) and are the CatTrax tough eonugh for oysters. Thank you for any help.
Roberto

I've only got experience with bumpy, rutted sand - the CatTrax are better there because the wheel can "give" as it takes on the bumps.

If you do decide to replace your Tiger wheel let me know - I've got a pair of wheels that I've been thinking of putting up for sale.

Go for the cat trax. I have a set I use for my H18 and I love that I can move the boat over rocky and bumpy terrain. They are great in soft sand because you can deflate them and spread teh weight of the boat over more area. I would not worry about the oyster shells puncturing them. The tires are tough enough to stand up to rocky New England beaches.

Thanks for the input to both of you. I would like to repair the tiger trax anyway and I would be iterested in knowing the asking price for Tiger wheel. Does left or right it matter?

I don't believe there's a difference.

The manufacturer lists them (new) for $72. ea. - I'd say $35 ea. + shipping

Let me know.

Just to let you know, I got them with a used boat a couple of years ago and only used them a couple of times before ordering the baloon tires. Too much soft sand around here. They seem in decent shape but I haven't checked them thoroughly. I'll of course do that and email you pix if you want.
