does anyone know where i can find a sailsafe harness? i have lost one of my harnesses and the company that made the system has long since gone out of business. for those of you who dont know what sailsafe is, it replaces the hook and loop trapeze with a composite ball that slips into a cup on the harness. sound like something you have lying around? let me know! |

Murrays has a similar system - it's not cheap (carbon fiber harness spreader-bar) but it looks like it works. www.murrays.com |

Try www.layline.com, I've seen them in their catalouge. I think they are popular with the laser sailors? |

thanks guys... that murrays one looks very nice, but im not ready to drop 100+ dollars on it. i think ill consider some alternative solutions first. |

Yea, the Murrays keyhole system is spendy. It was much cheaper when they had a plastic spreader bar, but there were problems with it failing and people falling off the trap. Not a good selling point! They remade the spreaders in both aluminum and carbon, but now only sell the carbon - too bad, the aluminum was much cheaper. Wonder why they stopped making that?
I think that the requirement (US Sailing or International? I forget) for trap systems that cannot get caught on anything has been puched back - to 2009? Something like that. However, there is a movement to make this a requirement, as trap hooks are indeed a danger of getting caught on things, especially in capsizes, trapping people underwater. |

Do you know what part of the plastic keyhole spreader bar was failing? Around the keyhole? The sides where the straps are? Thanks. TC |

The keyhole part - the ball was popping through the spreader and dumping people in the water. Happened rarely but still, when was the last time you heard of a standard hook failing? Once is too many. |

This is one of the original ball and socket types. And I've only got the buckle. I may have two. I'll look again. |

Resurrecting's an old post I know, but It does give an introduction. I have a sailsafe system that needs a new home. Two harnesses, a bunch of balls, and a spreader bar to convert mount a socket to a Magic Marine harnnes. Cost is free but you would have to pay shipping. My objective to keep it out of the landfill.
