To All,
A few weeks ago I got a postcard from one of my favorite Hobie Dealers informing me that the owners of the dealership were retiring. I had found the dealer (located in Bakersfield, California) to be both friendly and informative. They even recommended against me making purchases of component that they didn't think I needed while directing me toward better solutions to my situation.

They're selling out their inventory at reduced prices and are expected to be completely out by July 31. They will truely be missed.

It always hurts to lose your favorite shop.

Good to hear that there are still good B&M Shops in sailing. In one of my other hobies, stereo, this is usually not the case.

For Southern Califonia, Ron Lane at Fast Lane in San Diego is still going strong.

Hammond, I know Ron and his wife & family (through placing many orders) and had become attached to them as well. It's not about the availability of the products but the relationships developed with the providers. The dealer in Bakersfield is going out of business because the owners are retiring and not because of any struggle that I know of. They have a right to retire and I wish them all the best.

I have developed many relationships since I've been sailing. There are not many arena in which I'm involved where I develop a ralationship with a retailer. Twenty years ago, maybe.
