Dear sailor

I attach a copy of UKCRA's recent press release regarding ISAF's recent decision removing the multihull from the Olympics. The press release can also be found at www.asnr29.dsl.pipex.com/UKCRA_Press_Re ... 071110.doc

UKCRA have also set up a new petition, this one being aimed at the IOC. If you disagree with ISAF's recent decision then please sign the petition which can be found at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/mult ... index.html

Please send the press release and petition address to all sailors and any media contact you may have.

Regards

Jon Worthington

Why would multi-hull be dropped? Are they trying to suggest it doesn't have a significance?

The "reason" multihulls were dropped is multidimensional and steeped in politics.

The abridged version:
- multihulls do not have the political power base that other monohull classes (Finn, Star) do.
- many countries voted for disciplines that they thought they had the best chance of winning a medal in, not for the future of the sport in general.
- the multihull lost in favor of the keelboat, where it is percieved (rightly so) that donations to the Olympic program would be greater.

The game is not over yet. Just today, the Royal Yachting Association (Great Britain) sent a letter to the International Sailing Federation supporting a re-vote.
