I'm thinking about going somewhere warm (not Iowa) for spring break this year, and I though it would be fun to do a little sailing while I was there. Anybody have any good ideas of places to go that offer good wind and for a relatively low cost?

Me and mine are heading to Fort Morgan Alabama during spring break. Its just south of Mobile and we rented a house on the beach. We're taking the 14 and Xander's 16 UNLESS Rick Adams will let us sail his new Tiger while we're there.
Its one million miles south of here. We did this before in 2004 when we went to MWE in Pensacola. Left here, and it was snowing like s###, and got there (21 house later) and it was really nice. 80s etc....although, the water was NOT warm.
BTW: Madge is looking for crew if his daughter doesn't sail with him at NAC, what about your girly friend? Since you a Karlos will be on a boat for the week, I was just thinking.......
PSS: Me and Jake are 16ing too for this deal. I gotta fatten him up a little bit so we make min! We'll need to add 20lbs to the boat the way it stands now.

Any truth to the rumor Brindisi's will start sailing a Tiger? And one already in Clear Lake? So that would make four in Div 7? Hmmm... 8)

Jeez, really? I knew I should've gotten him on my FXone. First I've heard about this, I didn't even know he was looking.

Ben- When is spring break for you. The Kruegers are planning a trip to South Padre in late February to go sailing. If things work out I'll be going to. The FXone hold two people just fine if you're interested. If you're just looking to kill brain cells, and get some action anywhere there is warm sun, cheap beer, sand, and water will do the trick.

well Karl.. if you read what I wrote I said I wanted to do a little sailing, not drink a lot and hook up with women. Jeez who wants to do that anyways.... Our break is March 17-24 otherwise I would say I'll be right there with you. I wouldn't mind south padre or something like that, but I think I want to try to aviod the really big crowds of spring breakers.

Chris/Madge - I'll ask my girly friend what she thinks about crewing then. The only problems might be A) We have classes during that time, which I already decided are much less important than 16 nat's. And B) She might still be recovering from a knee surgery, so I'm not sure how able she will be as far as trapeezing and such.

Yea, just asking on the girly friend thing.
Karl, I am not positive that Ricky is buying a Tiger, I said I heard a rumor, on the street, that he's getting one. Not for sure.

BTW: I saw Cloverfield at 5pm tonight (friday) and its scared the (censored) (censored) out of me!!

We spent two weeks in Deerfield Beach area over Xmas - New Year.
At the south end of Delray beach, see Chucks 'Delray Beach & Watersports Rentals'. Wave's and Getaways, and a good bunch of people.
Nice sailing too. Strongly recommend you take a minimum of a two hour rental.

Try Fleet 44, every Sunday, at the south end of Ft Lauderdale beach.

Off Palm Beach Shores, just north of the cut, (the entrance to the IC waterway,) on the beach is a guy who rents Waves and a Getaway. I had a great sail there on a Wave on Jan 2, (before the cold front came whipping through.) A little further north on the beach, some lady rents H18's, but only to experienced sailors. For her most recent rental, she had to call out the Coast Guard!

Off the Riekenbacker causeway, Biscayne Bay, Miami, is a terrific rental operation, (I've seen it but not sailed there.) You can actually see the cats on the beach if you Google Map it in Satellite mode and zoom in.

Let us know how things work out.

It looks like Feb. 16 and 17th this year

http://www.adventureonline.tv/phpBB2/vi ... 9182#p2579

Here are the results from last year. They may help you choose which boat to bring. http://1design.net/contribs/hagar2007.htm

Hope you can make it!

Well it looks like we are going to be heading down to Corpus Christi, TX. Driving from Iowa March 15th and 16th, in CC 17-20, driving back 21 and 22. I don't know if anyone knows of anything, but I'm trying to find a good option of a place to either rent a boat or have a day charter type thing. Anyone know of such a place?

Ben- I stayed at The Port A beach lodge in Port Aransas when I was sick of camping. It wasn't the nicest place but it was cheap, and it beat the pants off sleeping on the sand.

I didn't see anywhere to rent anything as far as sailing boats go. Why aren't you bringing yours?

Have fun, make sure someone rolls you onto your stomach when you pass out.
