Will a Honda 2HP outboard leak when I capsize?

I sail from some awkward docks and have decided to fit an outboard to my Getaway.

I am drawn towards the gas motors as they eliminate the battery.

My concern is whether the motor would leak when the boat is over on its side.

we sell a ton of the Honda 2hp air cooled motors on the Hunter we sell, its a great motor. I'm not sure if it could be upside down or not, on its side should be okay, just do not turtle and ask the honda place you buy it from, I am not a outboard dealer, its basically a weed eater on steroids!

We had already two of the Honda's, one 2 Hp on our old sailboat and now a 2.3 Hp on our Dinghy.

Both of them were leaking when laying on the throttle side.
But both never made problems.

My Getaway came with a 2hp Honda. I use it to get in and out of the more challenging launch areas. Once I get to where I am going to sail, I raise the motor and close the fuel vent. I have turned the boat over several times with the motor on it. It's never been a problem. You just right the boat and keep on sailing. The motor has always worked well. I have never noticed any leaking.

I have one on my 21SE, works great. Just go easy on the pull cord, you can break the mechanism if you really yank it. I also re-routed the throttle cable out of the hole in the handle, it kinked too much when flipping the handle over for reverse. It should not leak fuel once the valve is shut off, but it might bleed out the cap breather if upside down.

Yes they will. First thing to go is the carb. The intake will allow water to flow into it and on to the cylinder.

There is a crank breather tube attached to the intake. That will allow water to enter the crankcase.

Finally, there is a vent tube that runs from the clutch case and is looped over the engine case. That will also fill with water.

How do I know all this? I just finished rebuilding one for a friend who got flipped over while going over a reef off of Lahaina. It took about $200 in parts to repair the damage.
