Mickey,
I picked the wheels up from Reflex just down the road.
The bearings were mailed from here:
http://www.smallparts.com.au/

Slaughter,
I stopped there to have a look at that creek. It was low tide and very muddy and mangrovey! :(
It might work if the tide was high, though I think I'd rather spend more time exploring the ocean side than the Northern end of JB. A car shuffle would be a lot more convenient I reckon!

Aha - I think I have just found the correct Reflex Engineering Co
Quote:
Reflex P/L Grieve Cl (Cnr Manns Rd) GOSFORD WEST NSW 2250 43243455 43247149

Is that correct Stringy?? When In googled I got an automotive site in Campellfield, Vic.
Maybe I'd better negotiate with me old mate Stringy and see whether he can put a set together for me and I'll fix him up for it at JB or direct bank deposit   Whatdya think :?:

That's the one Mickey.
I'd be happy to get a set of wheels for you but the problem is getting the 5/8" hub to fit the 1/2" trax axle. The bearings I used would be overkill for most users. I am carting my kayak hundreds of kms per year.
I used a drill press to drill out the plastic hub to fit the bearing. It was very difficult getting everything centred and should really be done on a lathe (which I don't have).
By the time you source the bearings, clips and pay for the machining, the Hobie upgrade kit is looking good. Getting that to fit the Trax1 is a simple hacksaw job. :)

OK - I'll check out the Hobie upgrade option when I go to the dealer next week.

Bloody hell, this trip had better come off.
9 pages and we havent even got wet yet.
Yep Stringy, certainly OK with not having to do a Bear Grills through the mangroves. What was it like with weed on the beach while you were there ? I was talk'n to a bloke from Nowra last night at a party and he was say'n about the weed problem at JB is a real issue at the moment and certainly effecting tourism. Don't know if it's seasonal or what. Anyone heard or seen anything to back it up ?

There was a little bit about....

This was the worst of it located at the boat launch.

but nothing like the 1m high clumps we saw in SA, where there was more weed than beach....

Most of the Eastern JB beaches were relatively clear....

I don't think it will be a problem. :)

We had a three bay sailing race here yesterday - was more like a three storm race
Wind, rain (hail), and lots of thunder and lightning - along with periods of sunshine!!
I know - you guys up north are going to say - so, what's different - after all you're in Victoria
Apparently quite a few of the boats were struck by lightning. I didn't really get a chance to find out what impact it had on them - but the good news is, they were all back at the clubhouse afterwards & appeared to be in one piece 8)
Not sure why I'm telling you this - except it might be reassuring to know if we strike bad weather at JB

Gee thanks for putting a damper on it Mickey  Well at least May isn't the coldest month. Also the wetter it is the less people there should be to fight over camp sites. I wonder if our northern neighbors will turn up. You know, the ones with the invisible anchor rope.

Good to know the weed should be ok though. The beaches look so good.

ahh-so! - I'd almost forgotten
I think the weather is very much on my mind because of yesterday's sailing conditions and the fact that my drysuit has recently been returned to the manufacturer in Colorado for "adjustment". I have grave fears that it will not return before our impending trip  :(

That's a shame Chris. :(

Mickey,
Looks like 4 of us.
I'm glad your suit will be back. No excuse now not to boldly go where no man has gone before!
