Hi
I have gotten no less than 15 email today on this and I have spoken to Ken down at OSYC and they are biting their lips in fear of the spill coming ashore that far east. At this moment, nothing. We're in a holding pattern. IF it looks bad (and we hope the Coast Guard, BP and all involved can get it capped and contained) we'll advise as to what we'll do. The first thought would be reschedule but we'll have to see. Please be patient until first/mid of next week.

Ken Altman here. Vice Commodore of the Ocean Springs Yacht Club and Hobie North American Site Coordinator. I don't have much more "inside" knowledge than what has been posted so far. I can tell you that we are nervous about the looming mass but hopeful. From the forecasts that I have read so far, we will have a good idea what we are facing by the end of the weekend. The Mississippi sound is an unusual inlet off of the Gulf in that we are ringed by barrier islands. Assuming that the oil makes it past them (which I can not see how it wont), the oil could be a real problem. So, for now, we are waiting and hoping.

If anyone has specific questions, feel free to shoot me an email at vice_commodore at osyc.com.

Standing by.

Ken,

What to us is a "venue" is "home" to you.

While I hope our venue is not impacted, I pray that your home is not ruined.

You guys have had more than your share of "challenges" in recent history.

Stephen

We're putting plans together for contingency on this regatta, and we'll make a decision on exactly what we're doing with an announcement on Wed PM on this forum.

PRESS RELEASE

The Mini Mega scheduled for early June has been postponed due to the oil spill in the Gulf Coast region. A date in 2011 has been picked and is awaiting approval by the Board of Directors of HCA-NA. The event will be the same format with the same classes and will take place at the Ocean Springs Yacht Club in Mississippi.

Those people that have prepaid, are able to apply for a refund or have it carry to the '11 Mini Mega (preferable) Please contact Chris Wessels [email protected] for refund information.

Any questions regarding this decision should also be directed to [email protected]

HCA-NA is working on contingency plans for NACs for the various classes associated with this event and will be announced once finalized.

Thank you for your patience.

Chris Wessels
