H17 spreader

I have H17 and I am thinking to make it stiffer by adding the jib spreader (even I don’t have jib). Any idea how to fix it between hulls?

On the stock 17 Sport, the spreader bar doesn't fit between the hulls. It attaches with stainless steel rods to the bridle anchors on the top of the hull. Then the forestay holds the whole thing up in the air.

The whole purpose of the spreader bar is to move the attachment point of the forestay lower, which increases the side force on the hulls. You can't install it without the longer forestay.

Presumably you have some concerns about the overall rigidity (?) of your boat, and thinking a forward spreader might help. Am I right?

There is some discussion of stiffness on this forum. Much of it centres around the connection of the hulls and cross beams. I don't recall mention of a spreader in that context, mostly it's about castings, beam ends and "goodness of fit" between the boat, beams and castings. My school-boy physics tells me that the spreader will hold the bows apart, but won't do much to stop the boat twisting, if that is your concern.

I have yet to pull my 17 apart, so I don't feel qualified to make too many suggestion. But there is a lot in the forums -do a search and see if that might be helpful.
