I believe we spoke on the phone today?
Hopefully problem solved. We do not expect the strap to become flush with the mast, especially when used on the smaller diameter mast head of a 17. Being flush is not critical or desired as this holds the post against the mast. If the strap were to be in contact at both rivet points it may not be holding a tightly as desired.
The aft rivet should be just ahead of the luff track groove (that divides the fiber portion from the metal or plastic luff track that is snapped onto the CompTip). Due to the smaller diameter of the 17 mast... the post may actually be more forward on the mast than on the side.
Yes Matt, we spoke. I appreciate your availability on the phone.
I got it on there, but not without some sweat. I really think that Hobie should provide accurate instructions for each model for which the product is expected to fit. The instructions and diagrams don't come close for the 17. Unfortunately, I had already set the first rivet, in the middle of the mast, as depicted in the diagram. It would have been really nice to know, before I drilled that hole and set that rivet, that "the post may actually be more forward on the mast than on the side."
how hard would it be for Hobie to provide a diagram specific to the H17, instead of showing a picture of a different mast, under the heading of H-17/H-18/ H-20/ h-21?
we're talking about a part that cost $220, drilling holes into a piece that costs $700....is it asking too much to have specific directions for each boat?
