1-- how tight should the main tramp be?? I was going to tighten it up this weekend but I thought It might pull out of the retainers attached to each hull. The 16 has a very explicit specs for tightness.

2-- I know there has been a lot of talk about not trapping off the seat, there has been two reasons for this -the seat was not designed to handle the load, -- it would exert too much down loading force on the mast and possible bend the X-bar the mast sits on. Would not the force exerted on the mast be exactly the same regardless if you stand on the side on the hull or out on the seat?? If you replaced the two extendable tubes on the ends of the seat that keeps the seat out with a one piece pipe would that be safe?

1) Tight, but hand tight... not with tools.

2) It's mostly because the seats could fold in unexpectedly under trap loads.

I trap off the wings most of the time when wind picks up
I sail solo mostly . you have to shorten standard trap lines
and re nicro press them do it carefully and I got the adjustable
clam cleats and round wire loops to hook into am happy with setup
just do it, doug, and check to make sure pins are securely in place

So how much shorter do you make the wire to trap off the wing?

Make the handle 32" off the edge of the seat or same distance as it is now from the boat's rail. 32" is the standard. That places it at a height where most can lift their weight off the deck to get out... and still reach it get back in.
