Been awhile for one reason or another since I was out last. With a break in the rain and cooler weather we've been having I managed to get out on the harbour on Saturday. First stop was fresh sausage roll straight from the oven at WSC then the usual show and tell sessions as I rigged the AI.
Got in the water and found my side scan sonar seemed to be missing the right hand scan. Bit of an issue as I wanted to go looking for a shipwreck off Bradley's Head. Played around trying to work out what was wrong as I slowly made my way out of Rose Bay. Pedaling the AI seemed hard going compared to last trip a few months ago. Other kayaks were doing laps around me and I was pretty tired as I got closer to Shark Island. Reaching for my drink bottle behind me I noticed my wheels were missing from the cargo area....
Yep still plugged in under the AI
As I unplugged them I noticed they were directly to the right of the side scan transducer. Wheels stowed topside I was off like a rocket and had both sides of the sidescan...
I spent awhile searching for the shipwreck before anchoring up off to the side to eat my left over pizza from the night before continuing on with the search. Traffic was getting pretty busy around the headland with whale watching boats, ferries, sightseeing vessels and other boats chopping up the water and leaving nasty prop wash clouding up the sonar picture. Anyway I eventually found the wreck of the TSS Currajong as I passed over the stern in about 25m of water. The ship sank in 1910 when run down by the SS Wyreema which was exiting Sydney
Harbour and in the wrong channel. She struck the Currajong amidships on the port side sinking her immediately.

http://www.michaelmcfadyenscuba.info/viewpage.php?page_id=57Here's a rather poor side scan image. As you can see the prop wash is really clouding things up. Now I've got the waypoint marked I can try again early in the morning when traffic is light.
Tracklog of the trip.
Very light wind for most of the day
