Anyone know where I can find a replacement/repair stripe for a 1980 H16.
I need 3 feet of sky blue to match what is presently on the boat. I wouldn't think Hobie would still carry 26 year old striping, but hope it can be found after market. I have looked at most of the Auto parts stores in this area, with no luck. Any Ideas?
Thanks
Mark

Hey Storm,

This might not be much of a help but you can do what I did. Take the old stripe off and replace it all new, in whatever color you like. My boat looks much better with fresh richer colors, new lettering and new insignia and you'd be shocked at how inexpensive it is. Banner shops might carry a lot of the stuff you're looking for. Looks like a whole new boat.

Happy sailing,

David

Is is the 3-stripe (narrow-wide-narrow) pattern?

The dealer by me still has some of that, but I'm not sure if he has that color.

My '84 came with that stripe in yellow. In '92, I replaced it with teal that I had custom made. Any sign shop that cuts vinyl signs can do it for you.

The stripe is in the three line pattern. Narrow-wide-narrow, in sky blue.( I don't know what Hobie calls it).I thought about replacing the whole stripe, but after attempting to peel a small section off, came to the conclusion it would be better/easier to replace what was missing. I would like to go back with the original blue, because the Hulls are white with the blue stripe, tramp is blue and both the jib & main are solid blue. I may check with local sign/printer to see what it would cost to have what I need custom made. Thanks for the input & ideas.

Peeling off the whole stripe may not be as bad as you think. I got all the old striping off my 18 in an afternoon or two. Just use a razorblade and/or power washer, depending on how old and cracked the striping is. Goo-gone or acetone sometimes help loosen it up too, and can be used to clean off any sticky residue that's left. You may even decide to leave the stripe off - my hulls are blue, and the contrast between the faded hulls and non-faded former tape stripe is kinda neat looking. There's an album on thebeachcats.com with some pictures and tips on removing stripes as well: http://www.thebeachcats.com/modules.php ... _album.php

Mark,

Ditto Bill's comment on the Acetone for residue removal. I was scared of it damaging the gelcoat at first, but that did not happen and it speeds up the whole process emmencely. Apply it with one cloth and rub off the residue with another using circular motions, rubbing lightly. The glue will ball right up onto your cloth (sweet 8) ) and then your done!
