I want to replace the ball on the mast support. Is this an easy part to replace ie. Ball just threads on and off?

That's an easy one. Just threads off and new one threads on.

This is the height the ball is above the crossbeam. Sometimes the keeper nuts used to secure the ball rod to the cross beam come loose and the rod wanders down. If the nuts are tight and you have good clearance of the mast base above the cross beam, then all is good. But if the nuts are loose, the ball rod may have dropped down a bit and you could be putting extra pressure on the dolphin striker.
