Childs man arrested in shooting incident on Verde River
By: Tara Twietmeyer
CHILDS, AZ - Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 70-year-old Childs man for allegedly shooting at three men who were kayaking down the Verde River.

On Wednesday, deputies say they received a 911 call from a man saying he and two other kayakers were shot at and ordered out of the river at gunpoint by a man with a rifle. The caller told deputies no one was hurt and the suspect left the area.

Deputies say after receiving a suspect description they searched a nearby campground, found Samuel Phariss and took him into custody.

The victims reportedly told deputies Phariss shot at them at least three times, hitting the water about six inches from where they were kayaking.

Yavapai County Deputy Scott Reed says Phariss then walked into the river and ordered the men at gunpoint to exit their kayaks. Once the three men were on the river bank, Phariss accused the victims of stealing a kayak from his home and inspected all three of them. He said none of them were his and threatened to kill whoever took the kayak from his home.

Phariss was booked into Yavapai County Jail on one count of attempted second degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of kidnapping. Deputies say they never found the rifle in question, but did find empty shell casings near the river.

Quote:
The three men told authorities that Phariss fired at least three shots from about 50 yards away. No one was injured, although a shot reportedly hit about six inches from one of the kayakers.

He was taken to the Yavapai County Jail and booked on one count of attempted second degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of kidnapping.

Hee looks good in Prison Orange. I suspect he's been through that fashion phase several times throughout his life.

He must have stopped off in Liverpool, Glasgow or Tyneside. They'll steal your wheels if you wait too long at traffic lights in those cities but then they'll buy you a beer not shoot at you !
