Most of my sails are older and the telltales are unfortunately gone.
I could buy some, I guess...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Newport-Tell-Tale-Wind-Indicator-1-8-2-Pack-Davis-221-/220579389381?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item335b8e5fc5
but they are kinda expensive for what they are.
Has anyone found a good, inexpensive way to make their own and adhere them to dacron sails?

I did a search but didn't find anything helpful...

yarn and "scotch" tape?

you don't want those (ebay) telltales for the shrouds

call your local Hobie dealer and get a pack of Black Beautys

A cheap and easy way to fix tell tales is to purchase some "Slime" bicycle patches (they are green and sticky as hell) and whatever ribbon, string etc.. to put them on the shround I tie the yarn on where I want it and anchor it with the patch by bending it around the shroud and the knot and sticking it back to itself. (half moon style)

Cheap, simple won't wonder up or down and lasts a long time.

I made some out of orange surveyor's flagging. I cut it into thin strips and fastened them to the sail with a spot of sail repair tape. I also tie about 2 feet of it to the head of the sail. If you ask nice, a surveyor will give you some.

Air Flow Tells - Black Beauty - HC 335
Online Price: $7.95

Mark, that's what I said originally, call your Hobie dealer and spend eight bucks! They'll fit in an envelope.
Amazing the time and effort people will spend to re-invent the wheel.
