So on the Portsmouth Index what do they mean by 1-up?

ie. Hobie 17 (1-up)

oh. ok thats what I thought but I thought it was kinda weird that it is listed that way since the one design rule is single handed anyways.

Are you sure it's crew and not sails? Hobie 17 one up, stock 17, two up Sport or boat with second sail? Just a question. I tried to look it up on the handicap site, and couldn't really tell.

The IHCA rules don't specify the number of crew, only that the minimum weight is 160 lbs.

My daughter's first racing experience (at the age of 8) was "crewing" for Dad on the 17. We broke no rule by doing that.

"One-up" has always meant "1 crew person" in the parlance of the Portsmouth numbers.
