Remy,
I'd be careful with this one! I wouldn't trust the integrity of a factory roof rack, period. Especially after drilling holes to affix PA cradles. If you were to use a Yakima/Thule system, you might be able to customize a set of crossbars but make sure that whatever you do, the crossbars can accommodate the required 67" spacing between cradles. If you decide to follow through with the idea, structural overkill would be a good thing. Honestly, I couldn't bring myself to do it with my PA.

Let's see what others have to say!

I would agree with GR8 Laker. I put the cradles on a trailer and they work well. I looked hard at installing them a Thule System for my Jeep Liberty. I was very concerned about structural integrity; as well as just getting the PA up there. I could not do that to my PA either.

Thanks I carry on roof racks with thule cradles now, thought the pa cradles might be better there was just no mounting info. BTW not much of a problem getting up onto the roof.

Remy, for the heavier Tandem Island, I mount cradles on the crossbars using u-bolts (re-drill the cradles to accommodate the u-bolts and stradle the crossbars with them):

Be careful about over tightening (and possibly cracking) the plastic on the cradles. They are not going anywhere so they don't have to be tightly mounted.

If you need to adjust cradle distance, consider using a hitch and "T" bar for your rear cradle mount for a longer span (and easy loading from the rear). 8)
