Hello and thank you. I have a Hobie Outfitter (which we love) 07 that i purchased in 2007 from Kayak Fishing Stuff Mine Hill N.J. unfortunately went out of business. So hence i come here for support . On 7/11/10 went out trolling for striped bass on spruce run .While out about 30 minutes or so of trolling , I noticed i was taking on water, so proceeded to tell my wife we need to go back barely made it in. By the time we got back in we could barely lift the kayak onto land so we got as close to land and got out. opened the hatch and well a lot of water , managed to get kayak on side , started bailing it out , Then took a good visual check and noticed a crack or a hole in scupper hole going from lil bit from inside bottom scupper hole of where trax cart goes through. So now i am perplexed on how or why and lost on what to do or where to go. Thank you again

Cracks in cart scuppers typically indicate a mispositioned cart. The cart, when properly used, does not stress the walls of a scupper. The loads are on the hull bottom and inside cockpit deck. At some point... likely the cart was in crooked and caused the cart post to crack the scupper.

Contact a dealer and file a claim with us anyway. We will look at the failure and consider if we can help in some way.

If you use the older style cart try adding Hobie #80045000 CAP - HOBIE CART DOME ($.25), one on each scupper tube on the cart. With the rounded top, it keeps the pipes centered and they don't easily catch any mismatched seams in the scupper holes.

We don't see a record of a claim on this one. Its always possible they did not file via our dealer website and have simply emailed... but we never received it. Be sure to have that dealer file it... or contact another for help. Fyi... this is not a free replacement. We would be talking a pro rated cost for a hull plus freight charges at best.

Send an email with the boat details to warranty (at) hobiecat (dot) com... I'll ask our warranty manager to contact them for you.

Matt and most of the Hobie guys have been away for about a month, should all be back Tuesday. Maybe try another email to Matt and wait a couple of days for him to get to it.

you can reinforce the scupper area by using some conduit pipe and dap 8010 ns. the caps are a great investment. it makes it easier for me to put cart in when on the water.
