Mine came through the USPS a few days ago and I'll be installing mine this weekend as well.

I got mine several days ago. I installed it and tried it out yesterday. Boat behaved just like it did when I used a bolt to hold the rudder down but it's easier and quicker to hook and unhook the bungee.

That good news Jerry.
Hats off to the engineers @Hobie cause that is nifty idea.
Do you think the new rudder pin helped/changed anything?

Received mine via USPS priority mail direct from Hobie on Monday... or was it Tuesday? Anyway, I'm hoping the new rudder pin will lessen the downline steering difficulty as noted by others. We'll see as I'm taking it out tomorrow.

Completely fixes the left steering issue when using strong down line tension. FYI... using the bungee hold-down makes down line tension pretty much unnecessary as well.

I haven't been using the down line since I started bolting my rudder down so I can't say but I did put the new pin in.

OK, Sanity Check Time.

Is drilling 3 holes (inline) through the rudder and housing not a potential new source of rudder failures?

Plus, we have just added a hole, a bolted cleat and a bungee at the weakest part of the blade. These blades were pretty much snapping there before these "improvements".

Just sayin,...

You drill two holes on above the other in the housing and one on the rudder. The 3 holes are not inline.

Only out with the new mod once but so far it worked fine. Going out on Sunday stripped down to a kayak and we peddling three miles up a river and back. Sure hope the rudder does break and leave me up a creek.

Installed all the fixes. Rudder bungee looks promising. Hope to try it out very soon.

Ok...I did get a chance to try out the newly installed rudder pin and yes...it does seem to help reduce tension in the steering lines when the downline is tensioned. A good intermediate fix from Hobie.
