I'm considering buying a 1978 Hobie. The only damage was described as cosmetic, but I'd like your opinion based upon the attached picture. If it is greater than cosmetic, what needs to be done to 'stabalize' it.

That's cosmetic. Oftentimes the deck lip was cut out on old boats to facilitate more rudder rake.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that the boat's been painted and the "waterline" on it that shows that it sat in water for a period of time. These boats are not meant to be moored out.
