Unfortunately i managed to put a knife through one of my AI tramps. The gash is about 5cms long and in the middle. I am worred the hole will enlarge when i put weight on the tramp. Is there a way i can repair the tramp by melting it together or putting a patch over it or using glue? What is the tramp actually made of?

Any ideas welcome.

Ouch! Might be an opportunity to contact a sail/tramp maker to sew in a new pocket to close up the tear and reinforce the area.

I'm always worried that my gaff will put a hole into my tramp.

It's vinyl. We have specialized welding equipment that uses either hot air or electricity depending on the type of seam or area being welded. Once the materials are dirty in any way... these processes do not work well and can burn through the material, so we do not do many repairs using welding.

I suggest an upholstery shop. They can use a small patch of material on the bottom side and stitch all around the cut.

If it happened to me, I'd hand sew a small piece of one inch strapping over (or under) it, like a patch.

Heat welding is the best for seams, but there are lots of vinyl repair kits out there for small pukas.

Hobie sells this one, and it's cheap. You want type 'B", for vinyl only.

If you have access to a sewing machine you can probably sew a patch over the cut. It would be better to use a heavy duty machine though.

Where are you located? If you're in the states I can mail you a scrap piece of black trampoline material for your patch. It's not Hobie material but it's close and should work.
