Just purchased a camera so I thought I would start to post some outings. Bit of a sail and fish out on Port Hacking with my brother in law. Rain and strong wind insured we had the place to ourselves. Unfortunately the rudder line broke again, that's twice in the last three outings. Definately not good enough from a brand new boat. The line has been replaced and is breaking where it comes out of the kayak not at the rudder. Until I can get this sorted permanently I wont be heading back out, I have just been very lucky so far next time it breaks I may not be. Great vid Pete.
Loved the fishing parts. Tailor?
What's with the rudder line? I've got a new TI and been out three times with no sign of wear to the line.

Hi Smallfish,
Thanks for the comment, I have an issue with the port side rudder line. Something is causing excessive wear and ultimately failure of this line. I was very lucky yesterday, an hour before it failed we were about a mile offshore in rough seas and strong wind. The Ti handled the conditions fine, but if the rudder line would have failed then rather than later I might not be here to type this. It is a great boat and I love using it, but I just can't trust it anymore and as a result I am very frustrated at the moment. I have fitted all the new rudder upgrades from Hobie, did not help my situation though.
The fish we were catching are Bonito we must have landed a good dozen or so that day. They seem to be everywhere off Sydney at the moment.

From what you describe, it sounds like there is a sharp edge somewhere in the vicinity of the line break. You certainly need to get it sorted and regain confidence in the boat.

Pete, as reliable as these boats are (or at least the AI's ), I reckon if you are going any distance offshore, it's best to do it with at least one other boat and with a radio.

Yep! Even with years of experience in these boats, safety (and more fun) in numbers!

When I go out alone, I keep within paddle/swimming range of shore, and leash myself to the hull (except during launch/landing). Be safe!

Outstanding use of an ugly day!

The TI is a great platform to fish and shoot video from.

Mahalo for posting that little adventure.

Nice video Pete.
I was out in that excact same area today, hammering through the decent swell that was coming in this afternoon. We went out and over to the surf beaches, trolling for fish ( I think I was using a similar CD11 as you?) but was unlucky, and back over to Jibbon and up the bay. Great sail. A couple of rod holders attached to your AKA's works wonders!!!

I love the TI too for taking a mate for a sail, doing some fishing, or even as I did yesterday, just taking the hull out up the river looking fr Flathead and Bream. The Great allrounder Yak. Setup up and backup times are a drag though, its not like rolling a boat straight into the water and taking off... I might have to invest in a trailer....
