Man, they sure like to keep this stuff secret. Neither I, nor anyone else at our local kayak shop has heard anything about it. I called the contact person. and about all I got ot of him was that the date had been moved to the 29th. When I asked about a Web site or any info on the route, etc., he said he thought maybe the Florida Competition Paddlers Association might have info on it. But they don't seem to have a Web site either, based on my research. Where did you hear about it? Strange!

We have a racing enthusiast in our local kayak club who found the race info on one of the Florida Kayak Racing event sites.

http://www.geocities.com/lf6978/sch_2006.pdf

He posted it on our club web site and that is where I saw it. Thanks for pointing out that the race date has changed. Are you considering entering the race? Do you know the distance?

Hey Rny,
Nope, I don't exactly have a racing yak with either my OB or Sport, so I will leave that to others, and stick with fishing/touring/wildlife/photography and the like. Like I said, the contact guy was not very free with the info about this race, and didn't mention the distance. But based on what I got out of him, I believe it should be about 12 miles round trip for the long race. Regardless, it is a beautiful river and well worth a trip to check it (and the manatees) out.

Hey Rny,
Once again, I found out about this race from your post here. I finally did a Google seach and found this Web site that mentioned the race.

http://www.outriggeroutreach.com/Calendar.htm

I'm assuming that the starting point for the race will be at the Fort in St. Marks that sits at the confluence of the Wakulla and St. Marks Rivers. The only other St. Marks spot that yakers normally use is at the Lighthouse in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge (see my logo below), but that is a fur piece from the Wakulla River itself. Hope to see you at the Fort in St. Marks on the 28th--look for the dude wearing a black Hobie cap with a red "H".
Best,
Dick

Apalach - unless it is storming or freezing cold, look for the dude in the Outback wearing the hunter's orange cap. Sure hope a bunch of Mirage kayakers show up. Look forward to meeting you.

Hey Dick - I spoke too soon. Figured that if I was going to get in an 11 mile race, it was time to start using the Outback. I just broke a part that I don't carry and notice that other parts are ready to break. Sorry, I'm bowing out of the race because I can't race the Outback if it doesn't work.
