Congratulations! If you need anything don't hesitate to ask. Not sure if you talked to Melissa while you were there, or if you knew about any of the spots near the coast to sail but here are a couple groups that you could check out if you want; all of them are friendly and some of the same people, just cover different spots.

Texas City Dike - http://www.tcdyc.com/ My favorite spot - good wind, minimal waves, usually at least a few other cats out there any given weekend. There's a beach out towards the end which makes launching super easy. $5 per car per day. They are having a clinic on April 9th; come on out if you want to meet some other sailors, get a hand at rigging, and maybe get a few tips.

Surfside - www.hobiefleet33.com There is a brand new Hobie fleet that just formed out at Surfside in Galveston. If you want to get out in the waves in Gulf then this is one good place to do it.

Congrats.

I noticed IndyWave said he's already been on the water. Some people just can't hold on until it's warm...

That's right! Well, I had to try out my new wetsuit!

I went to Florida in February and sailed Waves at the condo there, which really gave me the sailing itch. (or maybe it was sand fleas!)

When I got back to Indiana, the ice was gone; so at the first opportunity, I got the tarp off my boat, raised the mast, and went for it! At my sailing club, we compete for the bragging rights of who's first and last on the water. I made sure I got it this year!

I picked up my Wave 4/08 from KO Sailing (thanks). I took it home and set it up in the yard a real beauty, sat on it messed around with the lines and sails, took a few pictures, then loaded it up for the next day. Lake Conroe had some serious winds at least to my skill level "deck hand", but got it in the water and off I when cheers! I noted a few wrong things right off jib lines run backwards and the rudder bar upside down, fixed the jib lines not the rudder. Was going pretty good across the lake going up wind, came about getting soaked really choppy, having a blast laughing! Then all the sudden got into some calm water a cove area, wind still blowing, lots of room to move around so hung around there for a long while. I could hear the stays and rudders humming wow. Then took off a cross the lake again dipping the bows having a blast! OK now it is time to start going with the wind, had my mainsail all the way out and was still hauling ass didn't know what else to do, have expecting to go over, but never happened, went back to the calmer water for the rest of the time out. What a great Hobie day!

I have a trailer electrical question my riding lights fuse keeps going out. I have checked all grounds and they are OK, I’m wondering since there are so many of these lights would I need a higher amp fuse for more lights? If this sounds like I don’t know much about DC current your right!

Its most likely that your trailer wiring has a short in it some where. At least that's always been the case for me. I'd go double check everything, even the light connections.

It was the trailer a couple of pinched wires, this is a great trailer totally aluminum, which got a lot of positive comments at the Surfside Sailors regatta last week. This from the sailors that are totally saltwater sailors and looking at their trailers could see what they meant.

I am glad that this for the most part is in my wake, and I didn't have to pay a mechanic to trouble shot (What a hassle that would of been)!

I was out on my Wave yesterday hauling ass all most pitch poled a few times. I don't think that they see many "cats" on Lake Conroe mostly power, pontoon and jet skis more than a few times these other crafts would stop and watch me scream on by.

Fair winds, not Friday, I got underway with strong winds even decided not to use the jib. I did miss at first for it helped bring the bow around in the tight area I have to launch, but after that no worries, the wind was really blowing. I kept watching the videos in the "how fast topic" and was noticing that for the most part everyone was using the stock blocks and not seeming to have trouble clewing in the the line for the main sail. Well that is when I noticed the adjuster and promptly switched to the middle notch problem solved, very good! Not so good I couldn't unclew fast enough and dumped (my first time), this is the first time on my Wave, and alone. I fell right into the sail rolled off the line was wrapped around my ankle, got it off made sure my sail was not still clewed in, went around to climb on and by this time my sail was pretty much into the wind. well the rest is history all went textbook. If this seems like I am sending this to myself well no just sharing my sea stories and loving my Wave! (oh and I am keeping the block at the middle notch cheers) :D

I downloaded my first video on u-tube :D, now it is without camera mount handheld so a lot shaky. It is under "Hobie Wave on Lake Conroe" almost pitch pole in the end lol. Ok so also I made my first landing on the cement ramp without bump bottom once and that is with lifting rudders, cheers!

A pitch pole is when the bows dig into the water, and the boat cart-wheels forward. If you're going fast, and the bows dig into a wave, the force on the sail can flip the boat quickly, catapulting the crew.

Some boats are more prone to it than others, depending on hull shape, sail configuration and amount of floatation in the bows.

Waves are a little different because the bows are short and will dive easily, but the boat usually just tries to stand up on its nose, then falls back down and goes on.

I was out yesterday in some high winds and the lake was pretty choppy, but knew once I got across there would be a smooth cove area to sail in. So I made wasn't bad there strong winds came about doing my thing was coming out of the cove area and wham over I went, it happened so fast, I actually had to dive out to keep from landing right in the middle of the sail. So no big deal checked my main sheet to see if it was cleated, and swam around started to climb up, but wait my boat wasn't coming around with the wind. The wind was so strong it was pushing on the tramp and causing my boat to turtle. So got busy fast but not fast enough, I was turtled, sitting out there about 500 yds from my leeward shore. I thought this will take forever and even then I may get my mast stuck in the mud bottom. Well jumped up on the leeward hull and really leaned out and finally the strong wind started to get under the tramp and I got it righted! Funny the mast bopper had a little dimple in it that by the time out got to the beach was gone, but wow think I know my limits at this time for sailing the Wave, but still had a blast!

Is it just me or does anyone else seem to fall in the sail when the Wave goes over? Now it has been the last 3 out of 4 and by the way is this hard on the sail and battens, I roll off asap. Oh one other thing my mass ball in pretty well trashed, but as long as it doesn't seem to matter when sailing "no worries" right?
