ive just had a look at the price of hobie gear here in the uk,
£275 for the wheeleez trax 2 cart,
£516 for tramps.
the tramps have gone up from around £320 i paid last year.
are there any dealers in the U.S. or any where else for that matter that ship to the UK?

yup, sometimes 'making a plan' is worth the effort. last year i bought a set of tramps for the ai, from austin kayaks in texas for just over £200. had them shipped to a friends u.s address free, from where they were shipped to the uk for £35. worked out a lot cheaper than buying locally. same product, different price..

Just watch out when importing from the US into EU as you may be caught with VAT and duties. I bought a pair of wetsuit trousers and a jacket from NRS and had to pay VAT on the import. However, it was still considerably cheeper than buying the stuff in Sweden.

It looks like the UK is more expensive on Hobie stuff than Sweden and still we have higher VAT (25%).

There are a number of US companies that will act as a delivery address in the US, then forward goods to Australia. They charge a fee of course, but it's still often cheaper than purchasing locally. I imagine they would provide the same service to Europe and the savings would be even greater from the look of things.

Do they charge VAT on all private imports into the EU or only on those above a certain value?

TheBarber,

I totally agree. See my comment on the same issue within this thread.
