 Post subject: SAILING THE ADVENTURE

I just got the centerboard for my adventure. It sails very well. I would not advise it as a learning platform. It is like sailing on one ice skate. It is fast. I had it up past 5mph/gps on a broad reach with the pedal plug in. I was definitely not letting it all hang out as I am still getting used to sailing the tipsy thing. I'm looking forward to the promised amas.

It's pretty cool to paddle and pedal down the Chattahoochie to the dam and then sail back upstream. A very nice way to spend an afternoon, wild azalias are in bloom along the river bank.

Congrats on the sailing excursion--soundslike a blast. But, I admit I'm surprised that you are sailing without using the Mirage drive. It seems that it would be less tipsy if you could power up with the pedals when tacking or on a reach, and a gust of wind hit you.

Absolutly! Use the pedals while sailing. You can pedal through tacks and jibes. Pedal for higher performance. The adventure will plane with a good breeze. Pedal hard a few times to get it moving and then sit back and fly!

The drag is minimal, but the performance, handling and safety of having the pedals handy far outway any disadvantage.

Wow! I didn't realize that there was a centerboard available for the Adventure. It must be attached in some way to the pedal plug?

I know Hobie makes an offset daggerboard for the Adventure (a form of bilge board). Is this an aftermarket item? :P

Dick and Matt, the hooch is pretty rocky where they were sailing. IMHO they did the right thing by leaving them out. Although taking them along incase of a release and the wind not being right for the sail back wouldn't hurt.

draigue, Welcome and congrats on the Big "A". If'n ya get out on the lake and see a couple of Outbacks (Red/Yellow) toddle over and say hello. If ya don't mind me asking, where did ya buy your Big "A"?

Bought it at The Outside World, Dawsonville and I just saw some in back of Go with the Flow, in Roswell

Daggerboard=centerboard in the case of the BigA. Now, I do know of someone who actually molded a fiberglass coated plywood centerboard around the Mirage drive plug for the OB a couple of years ago. It was huge compared to the A daggerboard, but I guess it worked--can't imagine how it wouldn't--except in shallow water!
