Starting to feel the warmth creeping back in - Yesterday (Easter) was a beautiful day up over 70 degrees. I'm itching to get out there again. Water in the Sound is still too cold at 48 degrees but I'm noticing on the news each night when they do the weather that it's been inching up a degree every 3-4 days. Another month and we should be in the upper 50's. Still have lots to do to get the boat ready.

OK so boat is ready. Only thing left to do is rig the new trap wire. Memorial day weekend is looking much better now weather wise than it did a few days ago. 88 for monday. Got family plans but making it a longer weekend and taking tuesday off. Might try to get out there on tuesday 5/31.

First sail of the season today, solo. 80 degrees and a nice south east wind 10-12 mph. Launched out out barn island around 11am and headed up the pawcatuck river a little ways until I lost the wind then turned around and headed over near watch hill. Beached it and took a little walk across napatree point to the ocean side. Came back to the boat and practiced my trapezing technique while beached. (first time with the trapeze). Headed back out and over to Fishers island. Then headed back towards stonington and around the west side of sandy point. Losing the wind by this point so beached it again on sandy point and layed out in the sun for a while. Then back and forth between barn island and sandy point before calling it a day around 3:30. Water very cold but surprisingly, the wind did not feel cool. Had the wet suit and jacket handy but did not need to use them.

sounds like you had a good day Keith. I have mine all set but have not yet made the first trip out yet. June is looking real busy on the weekends ( no suprises there !!) maybe I can steal a day .... Hopefully !!

Hopefully we'll be able to hook up down at Barn Island in July sometime. I do have a "staycation" planned for July 18-22.

Happy sailing !!

Rich - Going to be at Barn Island launch in stonington, ct on Wed 7/20. Mostly staying in the bay in and around sandy pt and napatree pt. Looks like it's going to be a nice day. Probably going to have my 13 year old son and one of his friends with me.

Keith

Keith,

The boat & new decals are looking real sweet. I'm further behind on my boat this year , not even removed the cover or relaced the tramps. Hopefully I'll catch ya a Barn Island this year or if you are ever going solo & need a 1st mate let me know.

Happy sailing...Rich

Very foggy this morning near the shore. Had to wait till noon before it started to clear enough. Then by 12:30 I could see several miles. Some wind but not much. Then around 3:30 nothing. Had to use the motor to get back to the launch. I was on the other side of sandy point about a mile from the launch.

Going to be out again tomorrow with the family but probably not until around noon or 1pm. Got stuff to do in the am.

Sorry, Rich, I will call next time.

Great day today. Cool but nice wind (10-12 mph) out of the southeast. Sailed all the way up the Pawcatuck river and back out.

Took the GPS with me today to see how fast I was going. Since it's not water proof, I only had it out for a short while and got nervous holding it with my other had on the tiller and no hand on the main sheet as it did get a little gusty a few times. Anyway, I hit 13mph but I know I have gone much faster in the past. Like maybe 20mph but based on time and estimated distance, I figured had figured 16mph. I only say 20 now because I clocked myself at 13 today and it didn't seem all that fast. I guess I typically hit around 8-10mph.

Awesome day yesterday with Rich (coppare). Est. wind was 10-15mph. Sailed around sandy pt several times and then headed out past napatree pt into the ocean out as far as the channel buoys. Never been out that far before but felt more comfortable since I was with another boat. Took a break mid afternoon on sandy pt and then sailed a reach back and forth from watch hill to barn island maybe a dozen times before finally calling it a day. Rich clocked himself at 17 mph on the gps and I hity 16 mph today. Tons of fun but I'm burnt now and exhausted - 6.5 hrs on the water. Didn't want it to end.
