anyone have any recommendations on what gel coat to buy online. im hoping to get a yellow color. but there are several different brands and prices whats best?

ive tried buying it locally. the 3 boat shops i went to weren't very helpful and 2 were kind of assholes about it when i said it was just a custom color for a hobie and not their starcraft (or whatever brand they sold) power boat.

the finishmaster (automotive paint) i went to also said they didnt have gelcoat

also just confirming it looks like i should buy 1.5 gallons (maybe cheaper to buy 2gallons compared to 1g and 2 qt) and 1 gal duratec, and how much pva?

im respraying tops and bottoms of a hobie 16

1 gal of gel will give you ~ 50 sqft at 20 mills thickness. most manufactors recomend 15-18 mills.

Just a FYI, its best not to order gel coat online, the hazmat shiping charges make it normally more expensive then buying locally.

Start calling your local plastic/composite suppliers.

I use West Marine for that or any local boat shop. I get white (finish gel) and tint it with the tubes to my liking. $9 a tube of tint (yellow) and that will do it. Never sprayed it tho, usually roller and tip.

I bought mine locally, but they are mostly a mail order internet company. Fiberlay in Seattle. http://www.fiberlay.com. I was able to spray without thinning and worked great. I wish I had done the whole boat.

Here is the post that I did about gelcoat; http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=31031[/color]
