i have an older getaway with the original cooler hatches. they are about 12" x 8" rectangular but that rectangular hatch is screwed down over the cooler with only an 8" round inspection port for access. in the 12x8 area there is also a small 3" "cup holder" for cans/water bottles. for a variety of reasons i understand hobie updated this original design to a simpler rectangular "cooler lid" part that opens up and seals better. i am trying to retrofit my boat to the new cooler lids, but i am not sure if this is a simple replacement. if anyone has done this, could you please answer a few simple questions:

1. are the new cooler lid dimensions close/equal to the old 12x8 hatch? the hobie parts catalog doesn't show dimensions so i'm not sure.
2. are the screw holes in the same place so the new hatch is a simple drop-in?
3. if no to #2, then what is the correct procedure for installing the new lid and ensuring that it doesn't leak through all those additional screw holes?

thanks for your help!

The new hatch will cover the old screw locations. You need use the "mount gasket" which adapts the hull to the hatch shape. Use sealant on the old holes.

Hey Matt, I'm doing this hatch replacement also. What type of sealant should we use?
Thanks,
Phillip
