I have an '88 H16, fantastic boat. Since the last couple of hard sails I have noticed the outside of the stbd hull has started to delam. From about 2' aft of the bow for 3 - 4' and about 12" to 18" deep. This is the only soft spot, the decks are good and hard. I have seen Matt's FAQ re deck repair and I guess I can apply same principal tho' I've never worked with GRP. How serious is this? Can I make the repair with the hull vertical or do I need to lay the boat on the side? If vertical I guess I just need a row of holes at the top of the delam and fill it until the resin appears out the holes?
Now the dumb question. Are comptip mast a safety feature or about reducing the weight up top? Thanks so much for any input.

The delam should be fixed. YOu may be able to do it mounted on the hull, but it would work better if the surface was more horizontal.

CompTips are a safety issue only: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=78
