We are planning a get together on Lake Macquarie somewhere between the 16th to the 19th of June. The initial plan was to sail from the Southern tip to the Northern tip and return. This may still happen but nothing is set in concrete yet. We know what the weather is like at the moment but fingers crossed. For those who would like to turn this into a 2 day-er (or longer), the images below are of an excellent camp spot and should make a great base for a few days of camping and sailing. The campsite at Wangi has bbq's, shower/toilet block, safe car parking and grassy tent sites close to waters edge.

Even if you would like to join us just for the day, please show your interest and ideas on making this a great get together.

I can do 1 night - maybe 2. Probably best not to plan too much until closer to the day. I seem to remember a number of trips with no wind and getting alongside after dark... :(

Best I dust off the tent.

So far the weather predictions are crook right through to Tuesday. Lets hope it warms up and the rain that's apparently coming, quickly disappears.

Slaughter,
I've just had 3 weeks of annual leave but I'm back at work next week so I won't be able to make it. :(
PS-
Kathy and I have just returned from a 4 day camping expedition in the Cowan/Smiths creek area. We had a great time and camping out is the best way to experience the true versatility of the AI/TI, so I'm keen for any future trips! A longer stay on Broughton Island is top of my list.

I'm not going to be able to get away for an overnighter, but I'll try to get up and join you for one day.
@Stringy: Stealth camping?

That would be great if you could make Chris, even if it is just for the one day. I'm only an overnighter myself if the weather is OK. My theory is that I'm there to enjoy myself and I don't care how riveting the conversation is, if I'm wet and cold with no fire, I'll find it hard to enjoy myself.

'Broughton Revisited'. What a title for a new thread. I'd certainly be up for that again. When were you thinking ?

Cowan Creek ??? I was certain you can't camp down that area. Isn't that your understanding Chris ??? I hope I'm wrong and don't have to contact the authorities !

Yeah, agree with this. BOM is showing wet weather through to Friday. Still might change in the next week though. Fingers crossed.

Hmmm intersting. I'm guessing you don't have a hammock for two?

Sorry for the thread hijack but:
Chrisj,
Not really stealth camping when you're in an 18 foot banana and you've got a flowery beach shelter like we have!

Slaughter,
There were no signs that said "No Camping"!
Besides I misread the tides and wasn't going anywhere for quite a while. We had no choice but to set up a shelter for the night.
Image
I misread the tidechart again the next two nights.
Regarding Broughton- I've been waiting for favourable conditions but that didn't happen these annuals so we did Cowan creek instead. It was a good test to see what the TI was capable of carrying gear. We were very impressed and a week away would be quite do-able.

CGM,
No double hammock. At one stage I thought about it but initial discussions with the better half weren't all that positive, even after seeing Chrisj's and Slaughters brilliant hammock setups. :?

Hope the weather comes to the party for you all.

For those who are considering coming to Wangi Lake Macquarie for this get together, I went out to the campsite this morning to check it out and take some shot that will hopefully tempt others like Chekika.

Lush green grass

Plenty of pre-cut firewood
