I am in FL with my 18 and the only way I have to secured it to our dock. Is lifting it out of the water by its crossbars. Is this a real bad idea? My attachment points are at the corners on the rear bar and the mast base area on the front bar. Mast is down.

You won't hurt anything hoisting from the crossbars- it's probably the best way to do it. However, you may wan to lift from the ends of the front crossbar rather then the center to have four lift points. If you do so, be sure to wrap your line around the crossbar only and not the dolphin striker rod, otherwise you risk damaging the dolphin striker rod.
