Ok, so you may have a camera that you are comfortable with...
Now what, you need to turn this unique craft to allow you the ability to get multiple shots/footage angles running at the same time (without having your editor tear their hair out).

I've seen a lot of different means to mount Camera 1, Camera 2, Camera 3, etc.
So how do we make this work?
1) a telescopic gaff will work as long as you keep the point from injuring you.
2) Yes a paddle will work but it will be unbalanced.

Your ideas, or what actually works in present/past practice.

Fred

Yes I'd love to see how folks are doing it. I've seen posts mounted on front and back of each AMA but I don't know what thread hobie uses. Any idea?

Here's a link to a previous post on the mounts I use.

I like the tripod because it remains rock steady. I had previously tried a PVC pipe rig jammed into the rod holder but it tended to move around a bit when conditions got rough. I've used the tripod in 30knots and it doesn't move. :)

Halibu77 uses a pole and Ram mount and it locks in position. Gets great shots. Any idea how the mount holds the pole and locks?

I'm using a X-shot 2.0
http://xshotpix.com/product.php
with a Kayak mount.

It holds it very sturdy, but still extends long enough to get a good shot.
I have mine mounted behind my left shoulder on my Outback.

I'm just starting to play around with video's. Put you can see the mount being used in the footage.

Looks like a very nice setup except for two things: seems a bit pricey (about $80 for the mount and extender) and the extender is only 37" long. With my 28mm wide angle lens I'd like to have at least 6-8' of extension capability to get the entire TI into some shots.

My current desire is for the wide angle shots while sailing. I can see that for fishing this setup would work great to get those nice closeups with the catch. I guess when I start catching more than I'm sailing my priorities will change.

As I've said before, I'm a better sailor than fisherman but I'm working on it.

Thanks for posting the details on your setup.

I'm going to mount my camera using a series of scotty mounts, and modifying an extender in order to put a screw to put my camera there.

Do you guys think there will be any problem if I install that mount at the very tip of the kayak?

I've found that with video clips, you don't need to get too hung up on having multiple cameras for what we do because the best results are when you have short shots of say 5 seconds. Long shots of say 1 minute tend to drone on and the viewer zones out and quickly goes onto the next YouTube clip. The attention span in this moden era is getting less and less so they say.

This clip that I posted previously, was done with 1 camera. I use a home made quick release Gimble Mount on the Aka, and hand held all the other angles. Even this clip drones on a bit and as I said when I previously posted it, I reckon 2 to 3 minutes should be a maximum for a clip unless it's really exciting and you're building up to go over a waterfall.

I've tried Ram Mounts, Kayalu Mounts, and Scotty Mounts. Of those three, Scotty is, by far, the best. They actually lock into position, whereas none of the others do. Currently, I'm removing nearly all Ram and Kayalu mounts from my boat, and switching over to Scotty. It's pricy for me, but worth it.

Many apologies for having deserted this post in the last while...My Bad

To answer your question if you mount on the bow of the kayak, you will get a lot of motion and the final mount position has to be carefully thought out. (The Scotty Mount also needs 4 bolts). The least potential for motion will always be the center of the vessel. This will also allow less worry about boom shake.
(in a multi-cam system, you take whatever looks interesting and fix it in Post Production)

No need to modify the extender: Scotty is now making a camera mount system along with various other (must haves).

The simple

..is a killer way to avoid hauling deep down traps without loosing your skin (or the skin on your Yak in the process of trap retrieval)

Consider also this new system that has gained respect in the past few years based on the female winch handle mount on sailboat winches. And yes these are mounts that can solidly lock your attachments in place. They also require only 2 holes :

The new cameraboom 600 is a possible consideration if you have already commited yourself to their product line. Consider also that a simple tele-post replacement for the aluminum spar is possible (jimmy rigged)....as long as you understand that beyond a certain length, boom shake is going to happen unless you may need counterweights or to get back to that most stable geometric idea: The Triangle.
