A few people have asked about my trailer and some of the modifications I've made. I realize that not everyone is using a trailer, but perhaps by sharing these pictures it may help to give people some different kinds of ideas. I also know that I'm very fortunate to have the resources that enable me to build things like this. I will gladly send sizes/specifics to anyone who asks.
My Trailex SUT-350-S Trailer with a 18' 7" long pvc mast carrier made from 5" pipe. I'm using 3 Hobie saddles mounted on top of 3, Trailex (52" long) crossbars.
I drilled holes in the end of the pvc cap for better ventilation, and replaced the black bow roller that came with the trailer with a non marking 3" Stoltz roller. A aluminum support bracket holds up the end of the pvc pipe.
There are 2 stainless steel strap brackets bolted to the underside to help support the pvc pipe. One on the rear and one on the forward crossbars.
The middle section of the pvc pipe had to be heated up slightly so that it would fit in-between the frame and crossbar.
I can easily slide the entire mast and sail into the pipe, place the end cap on and go. I really like knowing that it's all safely put away for traveling purposes. (Material costs for just the PVC Mast Carrier approx: $150).
