Help. Looking for recommendations on repairing this crack- see pics. Buddy who is a Hobie angler pro suggested melting in stainless mesh from underneath, then filling from above.

Matt-- any suggestions on this? it is a 2007 AI. I'm a bit worried that the crack will compromise the structural integrity of the aka...

thoughts?

Stevo- I had this problem and it required a new hull. Sorry.

Pop both Aka braces off and inspect underneath. There's a good chance you will find other cracks starting. See if the Aka metal is corroding as well.

Send us some Picts.

Bottom line, if you intend to sail, replace the hull. If pedaling only a repair may hold.

Yes, file a warranty claim. We'll see what we can do on a replacement hull.

We are always willing to review claims... even outside the normal period. If we decide to do something for you, it may involve a prorated cost of some kind for a boat this old.

Good luck - Here's what mine looked like. Wasn't going sailing in deep water with THAT.

Gahhhh!!

That's horrendous.
I'm gonna pull the akas off tomorrow, so will post some pics. Then head into the local shop on Tues.

have to admit that it is killing me as the salmon are really starting to show up off my local beach...but i'd rather wait and skip that and be safe.

Amen to playing it safe.

I waited 3 looong dry months for a replacement.

Time well spent on other addictions. ;-)

bringing it in on friday to the dealer, and keepin my fingers crossed. Sounds like i should try to borrow one if the albacore dream is to come true this year.

worst case-- I'll miss a season or two, and it'll force me back on the bike
