I have a hole in my O'Day Dailsailer mast where the spreader bracket connects (I know this is the Hobie forum, but I also own a Hobie 14 so I feel justified in asking my question :) ). The hole is right where one of the rivets to connect the bracket that supports the spreader should be. My plan to fix it is to rivet a large aluminim plate that matches the curvature of the mast over the damaged area then reduce the length of the spreader itself by the width of the plate so the run of the rigging isn't affected. Would this would be adequate / structurally sound?

Thanks,
Bill
