You know those little black rudder plungers that are supposed to help the rudders pop when you beach your cat?

Mine keep breaking. I must have blown three in the last month. Grrrr.

I have adjusted the spring tension, used silicone lubricant, taken the whole assembly apart, filed the edges on the rotator, and I just blew another one on a sand bar today.

On land tests, the rudders pop and re-lock no problem, but in the water the plungers won't go down, and the heads get snapped off.

These things are almost ten bucks (CAN) a poop. Any ideas?

I suspect the aluminum around the plunger is worn away and allowing the plunger to cock sideways enough to prohibit easy movement. May require welding or building up a surface that the plunger can slide more easily on... or replace the castings. This can also happen if the pin hole for the cam is worn and the cam is sitting too high. That would allow the plunger to rise up high enough to come out of column.
