Hi folks,

We have a place on the sea of cortez. My wife bought us some short kayaks (Pelican Vipers) that should be great in the surf and playing in the bay we're on. But, I am interested in a kayak that will allow us to explore the coast a little bit more. I also love the idea of sailing.

Let me humbly ask you sailing gurus for some advice: As far as adventure v. outback, which is the more stable yak with the sail on? How much faster is the adventure compared to the outback? Which is better in rougher seas? Most of the spots I want to explore are anywhere from 3 to 8 miles away, so I'd like to use the yak to get there, snorkel a bit, have some brunch and be back for lunch and a siesta!

Thanks in advance,

TNK

Welcome TNK

The Outback is wider so the most stable and has large side trays for rigging fishing stuff. But the width is a problem for getting in/out especially on the water and will make it a little slower. For launching in the surf the wider body makes it a bigger target for the surf to pound it into the sand.

I would say if you are going to fish mostly then get the Outback if not get the Adventure. It’s better at all the items the Outback is a little weak at. Not to mention faster, easier to launch, easy to snorkel from, better in rough seas, 8 miles no problem, and it’s the one I purchased. 8)
